A court today granted an injunction preventing any further publication of topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge.
The ruling came as a criminal probe was launched into the images of Kate sunbathing with her top off while on holiday in France.
The publishers of French Closer magazine, who first released the images, face a 10,000 euro fine for every day they don't respect the injunction.
They also have to surrender all copies of the images.
The Tribunal de Grande Instance in Nanterre, Paris, made the decision to ban further use of the photos.
The civil case is also seeking £4,034 in damages.
Publisher Mondadori could also be fined £80,720 if the photos are sold. Lawyers representing the group told the court that the photos are not theirs to sell.
Prosecutors are also investigation whether Closer and the photographer who took the snaps broke the law by breaching the couple’s privacy.
The civil ruling will allow prosecutors to decide whether to proceed with a full investigation.
